RULES TESTING ACCORDING TO OBEDIENCE (part 3)
EXERCISE 6-Sending the dog to the specified directions; commands “lie down” and ” to me»
Commands: “Forward”, “Stand”, “Right / Left”; and / or hand signals (“Stand”), “lie Down”, “To me”.
Execution: the Dog is sent to the signal cone (small size, preferably in a half circle), about 10 meters from the starting point. Then it is given the command “stand”, which it must perform at this signal cone. The dog must be in this position inside the corresponding circle of 2 meter radius drawn around the signal cone. After about 3 seconds, the trainer directs the dog to the 3 m x 3 m platform, which is approximately 25 meters from the starting point. This area should be located approximately 3-5 meters from the border of the main area intended for the competition. Signal cones mark the site in each corner. Visible lines (such as ribbons or lines drawn in chalk) should connect the signal cones to their outer sides. At the moment when the dog reaches the mentioned area, the trainer gives the dog the command to “lie down”. At the signal of the Manager, the trainer goes in the direction of the dog. About two meters away from the dog, the trainer is given a turn signal, and after passing, about 10 meters-turn again, and go in the direction of the starting point. After passing an additional 10 meters, the trainer is given a signal to call the dog, without stopping moving in the direction of the starting point.
The dog should move in a straight line towards the signal cone and the area it should enter from the front. The angle between the connecting lines of the starting point and the signal cone, as well as between the signal cone and the middle of the site, must be 90 o.
See the figure in Chapter VI.
Instructions: when performing this exercise, special attention should be paid to the desire (readiness) of the dog to follow the instructions and commands of the trainer, the dog’s speed and straight lines of movement. To get 10 points, the trainer should not use more than 6 commands during the exercise. The sixth team is the team that stops at the site. The dog must obey and execute the received command (for example, if the command to stop is given inside the site).
An additional option is to use only the “lie down” command when the dog enters the area, and therefore use only five commands.
If the dog’s behavior is not controlled, it is punished accordingly. This means that it is necessary to give the command “stand” at the signal cone, and the command “lie” at the moment when the dog is within the boundaries of the site. If the trainer goes forward (steps in any direction) while giving commands, the exercise is considered unfulfilled (0 points). In case of excessive actions (gestures and facial expressions) on the part of the trainer, no more than 8 points are awarded. The dog must be in the circle with all four paws until the handler receives a signal to direct the dog to the platform. A dog that occupies a sitting or recumbent position next to the signal cone should not get more than 8 points. If the dog sits down or lies down outside the circle, or if the dog lies down outside the area, the exercise is considered unfulfilled. If the dog is already in a recumbent position, other commands are not allowed. To get points, the entire body of the dog, with the exception of the tail, must be within the boundaries of the site.
The exercise is considered unfulfilled if the dog tries to sit or stand up before the second turn of the trainer. No more than 5 points can be awarded if the dog tries to sit down or stand up after the second turn of the trainer and before the command “to me”. If the dog begins to move in the area without rising, it is awarded no more than 7 points. If the dog moves and crosses the boundaries of the site before receiving the command “to me”, the exercise is also considered unfulfilled. If the dog moves very slowly, it can only be awarded up to 6 points.
Repeated calling of the dog, commands to “stand” or “lie down” are punished accordingly (- 2 points / team). If at least one of these commands is given for the third time, the exercise is also considered unfulfilled. Punishment for additional submission of commands is punished depending on their effectiveness and the dog’s readiness to perform such commands.
Before the beginning of the exercise, it is forbidden to show the dog the direction of execution of commands, being at the starting point, as well as to demonstrate the platform. Such actions automatically lead to non-counting of the exercise.
Co-op. : 4 Maximum points : 40
EXERCISE 7-Checking the dog’s ability to find and bring killed game
Commands: “Forward”, “Stand”, “Right / Left” and / or hand signals, “Search”, ” Give»
Execution: Three wooden dumbbells are placed in a row, approximately, at a distance of five meters from each other and in such a way that they are clearly visible. The starting point for this exercise is approximately 20 meters from the Central dumbbell. The dog is sent to a signal cone located approximately 10 meters from the starting point. The dog is given the command to stop at the signal cone, approximately, at a distance of 2 meters. After about 3 seconds, the handler sends the dog either to the right or left dumbbell, determined by lot, and the dog, in turn, must take it and bring it back properly.
The Manager puts three dumbbells after they are determined by the appropriate draw (which dumbbell is to be used in this type of exercise). (The Central dumbbell is never selected). The dumbbell that is selected (left or right) is always set first. During this procedure, the trainer and the dog are at the starting point facing the Central dumbbell at a distance of approximately 20 meters.
For use in this type of exercise, dumbbells of three sizes are allowed (with a maximum weight of about 450 g), suitable for different breeds of dogs. The size of the dumbbell must match the size of the dog. But, whatever it was, the trainer is free to choose the size of this projectile.
Instructions: when performing this exercise, special attention should be paid to the dog’s readiness to execute guiding commands, its speed and ability to choose the shortest path to the previously selected dumbbell. Showing the dog the direction at the starting point will be regarded as touching the dog. In this case, the exercise will be considered unfulfilled. In order to get points in this exercise, the dog must stand near the signal cone within the boundaries of a circle with a radius of 2 meters, drawn around the signal cone. A dog that lies down or sits down next to a cone cannot get more than 8 points.
Attempts to chew or bite a dumbbell should be appropriately punished by reducing the number of points scored to 7 or lower. If attempts to chew the above-mentioned props do not stop for an extended period of time, the dog may not be awarded more than 5 points. A sufficiently long chewing or breaking of the dumbbell is regarded as failure to perform this type of exercise (0 points). But, if the dog is just trying to make a stronger grip on the used props, it should not be subject to any punishment.
If the dog chooses the wrong dumbbell, the exercise is considered unfulfilled (0 points).
Reset the dumbbell:
If the dog drops the dumbbell, but raises it again on its own initiative, it is awarded no more than 7 points. In the case of an additional “give” command, the maximum number of points is 5. If the dog drops the dumbbell near the trainer, and the trainer, in turn, picks it up from the spot, 5 points are awarded.
The penalty for using additional directing commands depends on their effectiveness and the dog’s willingness to execute the received commands. The penalty for using other additional commands must be consistent with the main provisions and instructions of exercise 6.
Co-op. : Maximum number of points : 30
EXERCISE 8-Jumping over a barrier behind a metal object
Command: “Barrier”, “Bring” and “Give”.
Execution: the Trainer is in front of the barrier (at a distance of about 3 m from the barrier). The dog is in the “next” position. The trainer throws a metal dumbbell over the barrier. At the signal of the Manager, the trainer gives the dog the command “barrier” (jump over the barrier), take a dumbbell, and jump the barrier in the opposite direction. In this type of exercise, it is allowed to use metal dumbbells of three different sizes (and weight parameters) in accordance with the size of dogs. The maximum weight of the heaviest dumbbell is approximately 200 g. But, be that as it may, the weight of the dumbbell depends on the choice of the trainer, even without taking into account the size of the dog. The barrier should be 1 meter wide, and in height it should be equal to the height of the dog at the withers (with rounding up to 10 cm). The height of the barrier should never exceed 1 meter.
Instructions: the “bring” Command must be given no later than the dog’s jump. If the dog at least slightly touches the barrier when performing a jump, the maximum number of points in this case is 8. If the dog supports itself on the barrier (leans on it), or if it does not make a reverse jump, the exercise is considered unfulfilled.
Resetting an item:
If the dog drops an item but picks it up again on its own initiative, it can be awarded no more than 7 points. In the case of an additional “bring” command, the maximum number of points is 5. If
the dog drops the props near the trainer, and the trainer, in turn, picks it up (the props) from the place-5 points are awarded.
