Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard: circus dog training
Circus training, at first glance, may seem like an exciting and fun game between the owner and his dog. This is how it should look from the outside. In fact, behind this are many hours of training and a great desire to show what a dog is capable of.
Unlike other training courses, such as OKD or ZKS, circus training is dominated by the taste-sensitive method. It is based on reinforcing the desired result with a treat and praise. If the dog was taught differently, for example, by jerks of the leash, then this is reflected in its work. A properly trained dog performs tricks on the first command of the trainer, constantly monitors him and waits for the next command, and Vice versa, the dog’s behavior during the performance gives out an inept training: it works sluggishly, is constantly distracted, the owner is forced to repeat the commands several times and, mostly, in a threatening tone.
For successful training dogs circus tricks need: the availability of contact between the trainer and his pet, knowledge dog basic teams OKD, knowledge master basic principles of training and, of course, a bit free time. After the end of almost each of my performances, people come up to me and ask: “At what age did You start training with a dog and how long did you do it?”. I answer that I started classes the day after I brought the puppy home. My dog was 1.5 months old. By 3 months, she knew and performed 6 commands: “sit”, “lie”, “to me”, “foo”, “walk”, “Aport”. Then the other commands from the OKD were added: “stand”, “next”, “place”, “forward”, “barrier”. All these commands will be useful in circus training. Many people think that classes take a lot of time, but the main thing is not the duration of classes, but their regularity. 20 minutes each day is enough for simple (home) tricks. If you plan to perform at a circus training competition, you will need a little longer training sessions, about one hour a day for two months. Competitions in circus training are held by the Moscow clubs “Druzhok” and “Rus-Olympus”, as well as “My friend” (Mytishchi).
Tricks can be purely circus, such as “snake”, “somersault”, the command ” Of!”(from the “sitting” position, simultaneously raise both front paws and so freeze, while the back should be straight), Spanish step, bow. Or tricks with elements of OKD, but in a complicated form, for example, the command “Aport” and “place” blindfolded, movement next to the trainer backwards, aportirovka burning or edible object.
Now learn more about some of the tricks. A dog can be taught to play ball. To do this, you need to take a light inflatable ball or balloon. The dog is put down and at first just throw the ball on the nose and as soon as they notice a response (a push with the nose), they immediately encourage the treat. And so on until the dog itself begins to hit the ball with its nose from a short distance. Another number performed by all circus animals is a bow. According to the technique suitable for the dog “bear” type of execution. It looks more effective than, for example, the “horse” bow. The bow is performed from a standing position. The dog follows the hand with the treat, tilts its head to the ground. After this, the hand is pulled back slightly, so that the dog touches the ground with his forehead. Lingering in this position, the dog gets a treat. A purely ” horse “number is a”Spanish step”. You can also teach a dog to perform it. The number is performed from a standing position. The dog alternately raises its front paws and moves forward with each step. Before performing this trick, the dog must be able to give the right and left paws in place. Then the trainer stands in front of the dog, holding the treat in his hand and showing it to the dog. The dog, wanting to get a treat, touches his hand with his paw and immediately gets it. At the same time, the trainer takes a step back and asks for another paw.
I will list some tricks that you can teach any dog: “okay” – the dog from the sitting position, alternately takes the front legs, touching the pads of the palms of the hands, and then gives both paws; “die” – the dog from the prone position leans to the side and freezes; “snake” and “eight” performing these tricks the dog bypasses the feet of the master, moving “snake” (on the go) or “eight” (in place); jumping over the leg, hands, ring, ring from the hands; the dog can throw and catch, put her on the nose piece of bait; catch the ring on the neck. This is not the entire list of possible tricks.
Speaking with the circus program at dog shows and on various holidays, I show that you should not limit yourself to classes only on OKD and ZKS. Any training, especially circus training, improves the relationship between the owner and the dog. If you decide to engage in circus training, then patience, work and these recommendations will help you succeed.
