Dog training commands “Near”, “To me”, “Sit”, “Lie”, ” Stand”
What does “competent” dog mean? Yes, just trained. A dog is a friend of a person, but who is happy to have a stupid friend? It is necessary to train her, let her go through elementary school-a General training course.
Let’s list what is usually included in the minimum course of training, what skills and teams.
1-Go next to the owner.
2-Go to the owner on the command “To me” and return to the previous place.
3-Execute the “Sit”, “lie”, and “Stand” commands.
4-Bring the item on the “Aport” command.
5-Do not take food offered to outsiders or scattered on the ground.
6-Stop unwanted actions.
7-Show your bite and don’t worry when wearing a muzzle.
8 – to Overcome obstacles.
9-Don’t be scared of a shot.
All these skills and commands, except for showing the bite (this is necessary for exhibitions) and the attitude to the shot (for hunting and guard dogs), are necessary in everyday life to control the dog. If you will be working with a dog on your own-prepare a muzzle, a soft collar and a strict collar (for large service dogs), a short leash of 1.5-2 m, a long leash of 5-8 m, an aportirovochny object (a stick in the form of a dumbbell or some favorite dog toy), an object for marking a place (a small Mat). Remember: by the beginning of classes, the dog must know its nickname, allow you to put on a collar and not resist when you fasten the leash.
First, we teach you to run the command “next”. The dog, having received the order, should go next to the owner not only straight, but also when turning, changing the pace of movement, stand at stops. They practice the skill like this. Take the dog on a short leash, hold the leash closer to the collar with your left hand, and the free part of the leash in your right hand. The dog is at the left foot. Say the command “Next” and go, allowing the “student” to go forward, fall behind, move to the side. As soon as he overtook you, say strictly: “Next” and make a jerk with the leash back, so that the dog was at your left foot. If she understood you correctly, stroke her with your left hand, give her a treat, say: “Okay, next.”
Do the same in cases where the dog has moved away or has fallen behind. You can check how well the technique is learned. Catch the moment when the dog went ahead or fell behind, and without making a jerk with the leash, give the command “Next”. If the dog takes the place of your left leg on its own, the technique is learned.
And now complicate the reception, saying the command “Next” when turning, speeding up, slowing down, switching to running. Then work out the same technique without a leash. First, quietly lower it to the ground, then unfasten it altogether. However, do not rush to give up the leash, let the reception be more firmly assimilated. A contrasting method of influence is possible – first a threatening command “Near”, and if it is executed-stroking, a gentle command “Good” and a treat.
Training large, strong dogs will speed up the use of a strict collar. The strength of the jerk with the leash is proportional to the size and weight of the dog. It is very important to establish contact with the animal so that it will approach you under any circumstances.
Do not associate the command “To me” with something unpleasant for the dog, so as not to develop fear in it. Let’s say she runs freely, and will approach you on command – do not seek to immediately fasten the leash, on the contrary, encourage a treat, Pat and after a while let go for a walk.
At the first moment of training, you can not punish the dog for not following the order and not immediately suitable. Release it on a long leash at some distance from yourself and, pronouncing the nickname, calmly give the command “To me”, show a treat in your hand. Suitable-encourage. If the dog is distracted, apply a slight jerk with a leash, sluggish approach-cheer up with your actions, pretending to run away. In any case, when it comes, be sure to repeat “To me, good” and give a treat. As you complete the reception, remove the leash and further complicate the situation, for example, give a command during the game. In the subsequent command “To me” link with the gesture-the right hand, extended to the side at the level of the shoulder, quickly lower down to the hip. After several repetitions, the dog will approach the command with a gesture. The technique is considered to be worked out when at the command “To me” or a gesture, she immediately approaches and sits down at your left foot.
And now a set of commands to control the dog at a distance — “Sit”, “Lie”, “Stand”. Teach in two stages-let the dog perform all the commands near you, while on a leash, and when the technique is learned, help with voice and gesture at a distance.
Working out the command “Sit”, put the dog on a short leash to your left, then, turning to her half-turned, give the order.
At the same time, pull the dog up and back by the leash with your right hand, and press the croup with your left hand. The dog sits down. When trying to get up, repeat the ” Sit ” command by pressing hard on the animal’s croup. Encourage proper planting. This technique can be performed using a treat. To the dog standing on the left, show it in the right hand, give the command to “Sit” and raise the hand with the treat slightly back over its head. The dog follows the hand, raises its head up and involuntarily sits down. Help her sit up by pressing her left hand on the croup.
In the future, having put the dog, slowly move away from it to the side, repeating the order when trying to change the position. When controlling the animal from a distance, simultaneously with the “Sit” command, raise your right hand, bent at the elbow at a right angle, palm forward, to the level of the shoulder.
The next lesson is working out the “Lie down” command. The dog is sitting at your left foot, on a leash. Turning to her, go down on your right knee, say the command, press your left hand on the withers, and with your right hand gently pull the leash forward down. You can help the dog to lie down by lightly hooking its front legs with your right hand. Hold in the lying position with your left hand, repeating the words “Good, lie down”, give a treat when the reception is completed. Puppies and young dogs with the help of Goodies are easy to lay. Show it in the right hand, give the command “Lie down” and, pressing the left hand on the withers, take the hand forward down. Seeking for a treat, the animal lies down.
As soon as the dog has learned to lie down at the command of your left leg, start practicing endurance. Give the command “Lie down” and slowly move away. Each time the animal tries to get up or sit down, repeat the “Lie down” command and lay it down. Encourage each performance of the reception. Gesture for laying — right hand extended forward, palm down.
During the veterinary examination of the dog, and for home care, it is sometimes required that it stand for some time without changing its position. To do this, work out the “Stand” command. To the dog sitting to your left, give the command and simultaneously make a slight jerk with your right hand (leash forward and up), and press the dog’s stomach with your left, as if lifting it. Hold it on your feet for a while, repeating “Okay, stand”, and give it a treat. Performing reception, the dog should not step forward with its limbs. Let it freeze in its tracks. Just as with the “Sit” and “lie” techniques, fix the “Stand” command by working out the shutter speed, and then proceed to control the voice and gesture at a distance.
Being at a distance from you, the dog often breaks off on its own and approaches. But it must be returned to its place by the team. Served it-put the animal, and next to it leave your thing (any, except for the muzzle and Aport) and slowly move away until the dog runs after you. As soon as he ran up, slowly return with him to the left thing and with the words “Place, lie” again lay next to the thing and again move away. If the dog tries to get away from the item, say “place” in a loud voice and return it. As you learn the command, call the dog yourself with the order “To me” and after some exposure with the command “Place”. In addition, with a gesture of the right hand in the direction of the left thing, send the dog to it.
